Project (Un)secure on the Network is funded by Erasmus+ program. Thanks to the support, a team of experts teamed up and prepared a publication primarily for youth leaders, youth workers but also educators, who want to transfer non-formal education to schools.

The publication has two main blocks. A block of general information and a block of activities and methodological materials.

The theoretical part will consist of four thematic chapters. Each chapter contains both the opinions of the authors and information from the scholarly literature.

Chapters in the theoretical part:

Media literacy: The introduction chapter to the issue; it points out the importance of information processing and the factors that affect us.

Critical thinking: It focuses on the concept of critical thinking, the need to use it. In the chapter, we also deal with argumentation, that is an integral part of the topic of critical thinking.

Online safety: The section points to the traps, which we can deal with in the online environment. What situations may occur while we are using the Internet and what steps do to be carefu?

Digital Citizenship: The chapter reveals a new concept (for many people) of “Digital Citizenship”. It explains what it is and which areas of behavior in the online environment it covers.

We can write a separate book about each of these chapters in the range of the encyclopedia. This publication does not provide readers with a detailed description of the issues and it does not contain all the definitions related to the topics. It should provide necessary information of the subject, point out the most critical areas, and especially a theoretical basis, which educators will be able to use to work with young people and to lead activities, that are included in the next block of the publication.

The second part of the publication contains practical information and activities for the development of young people’s competences in the following topics: media literacy, critical thinking, online safety and digital citizenship. As the methods and techniques of non-formal education are used in the application of these activities, in the introduction of this section there will be a summary of the necessary information about non-formal education and how to apply it in youth work.

At the beginning of each activity there is its essential characteristic that helps the reader to immediately decide, if the activity is suitable for the purposes he or she wants to realize.

We believe that the forthcoming publication will bring many inspiring suggestions and ideas in working with young people and will help to develop key competencies.
